Those nervous flyers might be interested in checking out AirlineRatings.com’s list of the top 20 safest airlines to reassure themselves before taking to the skies. Fortunately, most of the world’s most popular airlines are on the list, including American Airlines, United, Lufthansa and Cathay Pacific. Winning the top spot for the the year in the row was Australian carrier Qantas, which has never had a fatality on any of its flights. Despite a couple of high-profile incidents in the air this year, 2015 was a safer year for flying than 2014 was.
Nervous flyers will want to stay away from flying in Nepal, Indonesia or Surinam, as these regions have the least safe airlines in the world. All 10 airlines with 0- or 1-star safety ratings were from these three countries. Fortunately, the overall trend indicates that air travel is getting safer, almost 100 times safer than it was 50 years ago.
