Christmas markets
Christmas is coming, and you start breathing in its warm atmosphere. It is the time for family and friend gatherings, Christmas markets, nice gifts and well-deserved holidays. Furthermore, all cities around the world get prepared to this special and unique time of the year by decorating their main streets and main squares with sparking lights, Christmas trees, and beautiful decoration.
Europe is an amazing part of the world where Christmas atmosphere gets much more unique thanks to winter’s weather. It is cold, and many cities are covered by a pure white layer of snow.
Christmas markets in Europe are the best places where to experience an amazing time. In fact, not only will you be able to have a nice walk and experience concerts and events, but also to taste local products and buy nice Christmas gifts for your beloved ones.
It has been quite difficult to decide which markets we like the most. Actually, they are all unique, and all should be visited. However, if we have to prioritize we would go for the following four.
Dubrovnik
The first destination that we would like to show you is Croatia. If Dubrovnik is the main touristic town in summer, Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, is the place to go during winter. In fact, it has been nominated European Best Christmas market for the second time in a row. You will virtually breathe Christmas from King Tomislav Square until the Cathedral. Streets and squares are amazingly decorated. However, we strongly recommend you to enjoy the large skating rink at King Tomislav square and the living crib in front of the monumental Zagreb Cathedral.
Viena
Viena is our second favorite city to visit during this time of the year. Streets, squares, buildings, and monuments will “dress up” to welcome Christmas. Apart from having great decoration, the capital of Austria has several Christmas markets spread all around. Rathausplatz, the main square in front of the city hall will turn in “Christkindlmarkt” market becoming a magic and unique place.
Furthermore, the old Christmas Altwiener Christkindlmarkt market will be ready in Freyung square, in the center of the old town. We strongly believe that these two markets are really worth a visit.
Budapest
Let’s move to the neighboring country, Hungary. Its capital Budapest wants to show off its beautiful decoration as well. Adventi Ünnep a Bazilikánál is a great Christmas market in the square in front of Szent István Bazilika. Apart from a huge Christmas tree located in the middle of the square, you will be able to enjoy a large skating rink and a nice view of the Cathedral. Another great market is located in Vörösmarty square. It is characterized by approximately a hundred wooden chalets where you will be able to buy traditional, home-made products and souvenirs.
Prague
And last but not least, we think that Prague is our fourth favorite city during Christmas time. The Czech capital is an amazing destination both in summer and in winter. However, we must admit that this city shines more for Christmas in our opinion. The most important market is called Vanocni trhy staromestske namesti, which means Christmas market of the old town square, located in Prague 1. Not only will you see many wooden chalets where you can buy local products, but also you will experience nice concerts and events. Furthermore, if you want to take a nice picture with the traditional, tall Christmas tree, you have to go to the market in the lower part of Wenceslas square.
To be honest, the list is not over. Europe offers you many other Christmas market located not only in the main European capitals. Do you want to experience Europe’s Christmas time? Don’t miss this great opportunity and book your trip for an unforgettable 2017 Christmas.
