The Celtic Druids of Ancient Ireland revered celestial bodies and designed places for worship that celebrated them. Newgrange, a 5,000-year-old dome-shaped tomb in the Boyne Valley in Ireland, has a feature that only reveals itself during the Winter Solstice. Around the day of the Solstice, sunlight finds a specially-placed slit in the tomb and illuminates the ritual chamber with a beam of light. Every year, 20 lucky people can come visit and see this ancient commemoration of astronomy and spirituality.
