Citizens of Cuba and the U.S. haven’t been able to take commercial flights between the two countries for over 50 years. That’s about to change, because the two countries have reached a deal to allow commercial air travel between them again. American Airlines hopes to be the first U.S. carrier to serve Cuba, and plans to submit a service proposal to the government with the goal of getting a route up and running in 2016. American law still prohibits U.S. citizens from traveling to Cuba for tourist purposes, so it is as yet unclear who the American Airlines route will serve.
