People are becoming more aware of the impact they have on the planet and how, even the smallest things, can make a difference. You may think of flying as massively damaging to the environment but the airlines are doing everything they can to reduce the impact and there are an array of schemes allowing you to off-set your travelling footprint.
But, one simple thing that anyone can do is consider the waste they create when flying. In fact, there are several things you can do to reduce waste when flying; it’s known as conscious multicity travelling.
Your border pass does not need to be printed, simply download a copy to your smartphone and show that when necessary.
Pack In Advance
If you’re flying then you know that you’re going to need to stay hydrated, pack a reusable water bottle, this will prevent you from creating waste by purchasing bottled water.
You should also consider anything else that is disposable on the plane, such as cutlery. Take your own and you’ll be saving waste.
Your toiletries need to go with you but, instead of carrying them in a standard ziplock bag that needs to be replaced often, use a silicone case.
This is much better for the environment and the additional expense will help to ensure you don’t leave it behind anywhere.
Zero Waste Products
Purchasing the cute travel size bottles can be fun but it’s inefficient and not friendly for the environment. Instead, get re-usable bottles and add enough of your regular products to these containers to last for your trip.
It’s the perfect way of continuing to use your favourite products without damaging the environment.
Layers are the best way of dealing with hot, or cold, environments. Chances are that the plane will not be as warm, or as cool, as you think it will be.
By packing layers and making sure they are in your carry on a case you’ll be able to cope with any temperature without wasting money and resources purchasing blankets or using the inbuilt fan.
Avoid The Duty-Free
Duty-free shops can provide you with a fantastic deal. Unfortunately, because they are being bought after customs they also need to be placed into a plastic bag with a seal.
Plastic isn’t good for the environment, unless it’s the deal of a lifetime you’ll want to avoid this and the waste it creates.
Most flyers are aware that flying is one of the worst things you can do for climate change. You can’t eliminate the emissions that come from flying but you can sign up with Friends of the Earth, or The Nature Conservancy.
They will help to calculate the emissions your flight will produce and what you can do to neutralize your effect.
