If you’re thinking about the summer and where you should be heading for your next holiday then you’re probably wondering where to go. After all, the cheaper the destination the more you’ll have to spend enjoying it!
This year the world’s cheapest destination for Britons is Portugal. This shouldn’t be particularly surprising. The Algarve in the south has always been popular and remains one of the world’s cheapest destinations when considering the cost of an evening meal, beer and coffee for two people; plus a bottle of suncream although that’s not for drinking!
The Facts
Portugal takes the top spot as the world’s cheapest destination by allowing you to purchase all these items for just £33.36.
Bulgaria came a close second with £33.50 and the Costa del Sol was just behind in third.
Following up on this Turkey and the Czech Republic gained a respectable fourth and fifth position; all still attractive destinations and definitely the top 5 world’s cheapest destinations!
Europe Only
Obviously, the price of a holiday in Europe is generally cheaper for the Brits than further afield. However, this survey didn’t look at the cost of getting to these places. It looked at how far your money would go when you were there.
But despite this, the only non-European country to feature in the top 10 world’s cheapest destinations was Japan; specifically Tokyo.
But they were a sizeable distance from Portugal; the same items were £58.47 there!
Check Your Currency
Of course, these figures can be dramatically adjusted depending on the exchange rate at the time you travel. While you might not want to wait until the last minute to book your holiday you need to monitor the exchange rates closely.
Changing your money when the British pound is strong will help your holiday money go further and the world’s cheapest destinations seem even sweeter!
You don’t need to wait until you’re about to leave to change your money; do when the rate suits you.
Resort Costs
It is also worth monitoring specific resorts in these destinations. Competition is becoming fiercer; many are dropping the price of their services, including evening meals.
Choosing the right resort will help you make the most of every penny you have.
Worth Watching
Although not on the world’s cheapest destination list it is worth considering Cancun, Cape Town and Bali. They are generally inexpensive for meals if the exchange rate drops you could be in for a real budget treat!
Avoid On A Budget
Finally, it is worth avoiding places like Washington, Jamaica, Antigua and Dubai. Prices are consistently high here; these are some of the most expensive destinations n the world!
