Few routes are more scenic than the Pacific Coast Highway.
It is a part of Highway 1, a route begins at I-5 in Orange County and runs
north to US 101 in Mendocino County. US FlyDrive currently
offers a combination discount airline
ticket and car rental package for a 421-mile Highway 1 north to south driving
tour from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
After their discount
airline tickets put them in San Francisco, travelers begin their western
coastline driving journey. Highway 1 runs across the Golden Gate Bridge, providing
a view of the San Francisco Bay opening to the Pacific Ocean. The American Society
of Civil Engineers named the bridge one of the modern Wonders of the World.
On the US FlyDrive website, travelers can view their 4
½-hour journey from San Francisco to Santa Maria in 3D. Since this trip is all
about the journey, they should make stops along the way when they are not
enjoying the breathtaking scenery. The Santa Maria and Santa Ynez valleys
feature more than 60 wineries. The Hearst San Simeon State Historic Monument,
once the lavish home of media mogul William Randolph Hearst, is one of the most
popular California attractions.
It takes about three hours to drive from Santa Maria to Los
Angeles and during this journey, a self-guided walking tour of Santa Barbara is
a must. Amazing architecture, including many missions and historic adobe
structures, are highlighted. Travelers should also visit Sterns Wharf, the
oldest operating west coast wharf, where they can enjoy some delicious seafood.
During the journey down Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los
Angeles, travelers should stop at many more cities to experience the local
culture and attractions. A discounted
airline ticket departs from Los Angeles for the last leg of the journey. Click here to price
