Route 66 is one of the most famous highways in America. The
route originally ran from Chicago to Los Angeles, spanning 2,448 miles. Once a
major path for Americans migrating west, it is now a cultural icon. Visit U.S. Fly Drive and
purchase a package that includes a car rental for the trip west and a one way discount airline ticket for return
travel.
The driving tour begins in Chicago and winds through Saint
Louis and Lambert, Missouri, a 5 ½ hour journey. From there, it is a nearly
400-mile trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where travelers should stop to enjoy the
local culture and rest for the night. The next morning, it is on to Amarillo,
Texas, a six-hour trip that spans 365 miles of the southern central part of the
country.
From Texas, travelers head to Albuquerque, New Mexico, near
the mighty Rio Grande River. By the end of the day, the car will arrive in
Flagstaff, Arizona. During the next leg of the trip, drivers should veer
slightly off route to experience the hairpin turns of the Oatman Highway in
western Arizona. Some may recognize this road from the map shown to Lightning
McQueen in the Cars movie.
By the time travelers arrive in Los Angeles, they will have
seen many great attractions and met some amazing people. They will want to stay
in L.A. for a while before using their discount
airline tickets to head home. After all, there are movie stars to spot,
world-famous restaurants to enjoy, and shopping to be done.
Every American should consider a vacation package that
includes cheap airline tickets and a
car rental tour of scenic Route 66. This interstate highway is part of American
history and you are never too old to get an education. A trip like this allows
the family to bond while experiencing what makes this country unique.
