Chris Guillebeau is the author of Born This, and recently shared his experience traveling the world with Quora and Huffington Post. It’s provided him with the lessons that only a true traveler can have.
The world is different, and the sort of place you have to truly inhabit to know it – and that’s exactly what he thinks.
I’d first say that visiting every country changed me personally. I’m a lifelong introvert, which isn’t a weakness at all, but before I started traveling I was also frequently afraid and insecure. The more I experienced as I went around the world–and especially when things went wrong, but then I recovered–the more confidence and inner strength I gained. As for how I viewed the world, I don’t know if there are any truly unique observations. I gained a lot of respect and admiration for different cultures in a way I didn’t have before. This isn’t to say I disrespected a culture or religion before I traveled; it’s just that there’s a lot I didn’t know.
