Not too long ago, I talked about a story where a little boy and his family were removed from a flight due to him having an allergic reaction. At the time, I was more focused on the whole “other passengers cheered as they were led off the plane wow that’s messed up” aspect of the story, but time has passed, and it turns out this sad event might be able to help people down the line.
See, it seems what caused the reaction in the first place was the presence of a dog on the flight. This dog is a service animal, and is needed by another passenger to get through the day. And while this turns this specific situation unwinnable (someone was going to have to get off that plane), it does present an interesting problem – what happens when this happens again? Can we expect a repeat of this situation? Elaine Glusac with The New York Times has put together a list of the possible repercussions.
Next time around though, can we maybe skip the cheering at the family being forced to leave?
