Travel Tips For Using Discount Airline Tickets To Travel With A Baby

March 7, 2012 By Terence Nilson Leave a Comment

61-travel with a babyThe thought of taking a baby on a plane can send any parent
into a panic. Most days, a trip to the supermarket is overwhelming. Using a discount airline ticket to jet off to
grandma’s house with the little one in tow seems downright frightening.
However, preparation will turn any traveling parent into a pro.

If the baby is under two weeks old, a doctor must provide a
signed travel waiver for the child to board a plane. When booking the discounted airline ticket, look for
flights that correspond with the sleeping schedule of the infant. This may mean
a red eye flight but at least the little one will sleep through most of the
trip.

Most airlines offer special airfares for infants and though the
FAA recommends that a baby under 40 pounds be strapped into a car seat on an
airplane, this is not required. If an extra seat is booked, ask the flight
attendant to assist with car seat installation. If the baby will be in your
seat, bring a soft carrier or book the aisle seat for easy access to the
restroom.

Bulkhead seats in the front row are a good choice because
they provide extra room and there are no seats in front for a baby to kick.
Avoid layovers because this creates extra work and usually does not sit well
with babies. If unavoidable, choose one that provides time to remove the
carrier or stroller from the gate check and get it to the next gate.

Pack enough supplies to accommodate an unexpected flight
delay. Dress the baby in layers to account for the cooler temperatures inside
the plane. Carry on extra clothing for the baby and yourself in case the infant
spits up. Click here to book cheap

baby.
