Someone recently wrote to Conde Nast Traveler complaining that two iPads disappeared from their checked luggage on a transatlantic flight. They wondered if they could file a reimbursement claim with their airline. Unfortunately, most airlines write their service agreements such that they are not liable for lost valuables on checked luggage. If at all possible, pack technology and other valuables in your carry-on to avoid the plight of this unfortunate letter-writer.
