Though some people have not yet taken down their Christmas
decorations, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. Do not waste time in planning
a romantic getaway. Whether looking for discount
airline tickets or trying to reserve a hotel room, the task will be more
difficult in two weeks. Take care of things now to avoid having to apologize to
your special someone while sitting at home on February 14.
The longer you procrastinate, the more difficult it will be
to find cheap airline tickets. Most
airlines require at least 14-day advance reservations to secure a decent rate.
The timeframe for AirTran airlines is ten days. U.S. Airways and Southwest
Airlines have a seven-day advance purchasing window. If the destination is
known, book before these dates. If not, now is the time to decide where you are
Stay away from the most popular Valentine’s Day spots like
Las Vegas because airline ticket prices are usually double their normal rate.
Heading to the most popular places at certain times of year results in paying
outrageous prices. Plus, do you really want to be where everyone else is on
this special day?
If a warm weather destination is desired, consider Tampa,
Fort Lauderdale, or Palm Beach rather than Miami. If heading on a ski vacation,
avoid destinations like Aspen. Look for bargain flights from your local airport
and major hubs located nearby. The longer drive will be worth it if the airfare
is much cheaper.
Before reserving a discount
airline ticket, consider extending the vacation. Depart prior to February
14 and return after President’s Day. Save money by booking at least one leg of
the trip on the cheapest flying days, which are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
and Saturday. Overnight or evening is the cheapest time to fly, offering an
opportunity for additional savings.
